THE ART OF CONSTRUCTION
I use traditional Coptic stitch binding methods to secure the signatures together and form text blocks. I then reinforce their spines with muslin cloth before adhering them to the book boards to construct the journals you see featured.
MATERIALS WITH CHARACTER
The materials I select support my favorite design aesthetics. I naturally gravitate towards textures, butterflies, and fun pattern combinations that I layer together to create multidimensional patchwork designs.
BEHIND EVERY DESIGN
When designing journals, I first consider colors, prints, and layouts that could be unexpected pairings, then experiment ways to make them complimentary. I like to display a sense of balance and symmetry in my designs, while also leaving room for perfect imperfections and playful moments!
BEAUTY MEETS FUNCTIONALITY
There are times when I incorporate special features of added functionality in the designs. For example, some fabric pieces are stitched on as pockets, and some ribbon details can be used as tie closures.
